Can't I just open up my PSU and replace the fans with quiet fans instead of buying a quiet PSU ? |

Warranty issues, and the hassle involved in opening up your power supply and replacing the standard fan are reasons enough for most people to decide that cracking open their power supply is not worth it. However, these are not the only reasons to avoid doing so. It is not recommended to replace non-quiet power supply fans with quiet fans because the original high rpm fans inside are rated specifically to cool the non-quiet power supply. You will run a high risk of overheating your power supply if these higher airflow fans are replaced with a fan with a lesser cfm (cubic feet per minute) airflow rating. A quiet power supply uses a larger and more efficient heatsink area as well as more efficient circuitry to compensate for the lower speed fans to achieve relative cooling.
